The Bell Jar

During the third year of my illustration degree we were set the following brief: to produce an illustration based on the first line of Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar (below), without reading any of the rest of the text, within 24 hours.

It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn’t know what I was doing in New York.

This is what I drew.
